As you read Book of Me, I want you to know something right up front:
I may have lived a wild life, but I’m no more special than you are.
That’s the truth—and it’s the heart of my story.
For most of my life, I believed I was just “different.”
Not as good. Not enough. Sometimes even disappointing.
But the truth is, God made me exactly who I’m supposed to be. And He made you that way too.
It took me decades—and a lot of trial and error—to finally understand that being different was actually part of being special. That’s the beautiful paradox of life. We’re all uniquely made, and yet we share so much in common.
What changed everything for me?
Finding Faith at 30
I was around 30 years old when I found Christ. I began reading Scripture and one verse stopped me in my tracks:
“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
Boom. A lightbulb went off.
I realized:
You can’t be humiliated if you’re humble.
You can only be humiliated if you’re proud.
That truth shattered my fear of failure.
If I was going to Heaven, what was I so afraid of? From that moment on, I began facing every fear head-on. I tried everything I once avoided—and failed a bunch. But I kept going. And I started to grow.
The Courage to Keep Climbing
This journey of faith didn’t make my life perfect. But it gave it meaning.
I learned that life isn’t about “making it to the top.” It’s about the climb. It’s about growing, failing, loving, laughing—and trusting God through every twist and turn.
When you read Book of Me, you’ll find true stories of adventure, failure, survival, and redemption. But more than that, I hope you’ll feel the presence of something greater behind each story: grace.
You Are Special Too
Through faith—and a little self-deprecating humor—I came to realize that I am special. Not because I’m better. But because I’m exactly who God made me to be.
And guess what?
So are you.
